nomination process
Our policy is to accept nominations solely from our advocates (local churches and community organizations) with whom we have partnered after our review process. We currently have advocates in Oakville, Burlington, Mississauga and Hamilton. These organizations have an ongoing relationship with the nominee and can attest to the genuine need. They also serve as an ongoing support system to assure that a vehicle recipient would be able to afford to insurance, fuel, and other associated maintenance costs.
It is important to note that not all nominations can be approved. While our goal is to help as many people as possible, we are a small organization that is slowly building partnerships to expand our capacity. Each nomination is carefully reviewed by a committee, and even if approved will be subject to the availability of vehicles.
Here are the required steps in making a nomination:
1. Understand that it is of utmost importance that a potential vehicle recipient does not know about the nomination or even the possibility of receiving a vehicle in any way. This avoids potential disappointment and unmet expectations by the advocate and the potential recipient, and to protect the integrity of Generosity Garage. We do not stock a fleet of vehicles but rather work to respond to specific needs. Upon approval, the delivery timeline cannot be guaranteed; however, urgency of each need is carefully considered.
2. Request a nomination form from Generosity Garage – this gives us a heads up that a nomination will be forthcoming, and we can begin a conversation with the advocate and internally.
3. Send the completed nomination form to Generosity Garage. If there are questions on the nomination form that cannot be completed without further information from the potential vehicle recipient, please discuss this with Generosity Garage NOT the nominee.
4. Once a decision is made by the Generosity Garage review committee the advocate will be instructed on when to share this news with the recipient, as further personal information will be required to obtain proper vehicle registration and license plates.
Once the vehicle is prepared and registered, Generosity Garage will coordinate delivery through the advocate at a convenient location for the recipient.
