reliable transportation for those in need

frequently asked questions

If you cannot find an answer to your question, please contact info@generositygarage.org

Generosity Garage is dedicated to helping people of all backgrounds who may not be able to afford reliable transportation.  From single moms and widows to immigrants or families who may have experienced unexpected tragedy or economic distress, Generosity Garage will do our best to help.

Nominations must come from one of our advocate churches/community organizations. This helps us ensure that nominees have been vetted by a trusted source. If you would like to become one of these advocates, please email info@generositygarage.org.

All donations made to Generosity Garage go toward providing reliable transportation for those in need.

We understand that some supporters may choose to contribute financially, while others may be able to donate vehicles or offer repair services. Wherever you fall on this spectrum, we are deeply grateful for your generosity.

We accept all types of vehicles and categorize them into three groups, each serving a unique purpose:

  • “Last leg” vehicles – These are vehicles that are no longer roadworthy but can be dismantled for parts or sold for salvage. The proceeds from these vehicles directly support Generosity Garage’s mission.
  • “Ideal” vehicles – Our preferred giveaway vehicles are typically 4-door models with 4–6 cylinder engines. They should be fuel-efficient, affordable to insure, and free from major mechanical or cosmetic issues, requiring only minimal investment to meet the Ontario Safety Standards Certificate inspection.
  • “Luxury” vehicles – These higher-end vehicles may be too costly for nominees to insure and maintain. In these cases, Generosity Garage sells the vehicles, using the revenue to further fund our programs.

Until we have obtained registered charity status, we are unable to provide tax receipts for any donations.

We work with advocates to help determine if a person can afford to maintain a vehicle. Often the initial cost of a vehicle is out of reach for nominees, but they can work within a budget to cover fuel, insurance, and other associated costs.

No, at this time we look for vehicles to meet needs as the need is presented. As Generosity Garage awareness grows and vehicle donations increase, we would hope to turn over vehicles to people in need as quickly as possible.
