reliable transportation for those in need

frequently asked questions

If you cannot find an answer to your question, please contact info@generositygarage.org

Generosity Garage is dedicated to helping people of all backgrounds who may not be able to afford reliable transportation.  From single moms and widows to immigrants or families who may have experienced unexpected tragedy or economic distress, Generosity Garage will do our best to help.

Nominations must come from one of our advocate churches/community organizations. This helps us ensure that nominees have been vetted by a trusted source. If you would like to become one of these advocates, please contact us.

All donations made to Generosity Garage go toward providing reliable transportation for those in need.

We recognize that some people can donate money to help fund Generosity Garage, while others may be in a position to donate vehicles, or even repair services.

We accept virtually all types of vehicles but categorize them in three ways and will use them accordingly:

  • "Last leg" vehicles - these are vehicles that are irreparable but could be used for parts or sold for salvage, with parts/revenue going back into Generosity Garage.

  • "Ideal" vehicles - our ideal giveaway vehicles are 4-door, 4-6 cylinder, inexpensive on gas/insurance, and not in need of major mechanical or cosmetic repair and that will require minimal cost to meet Ontario Safety Standards Certificate inspection.

  • "Luxury" vehicles - these are higher end vehicles that would be too expensive for nominees to insure and maintain, and thus Generosity Garage would sell to produce further revenue for Generosity Garage.

Until we have obtained registered charity status, we are unable to provide tax receipts for any donations.

We work with advocates to help determine if a person can afford to maintain a vehicle. Often the initial cost of a vehicle is out of reach for nominees, but they can work within a budget to cover fuel, insurance, and other associated costs.

No, at this time we look for vehicles to meet needs as the need is presented. As Generosity Garage awareness grows and vehicle donations increase, we would hope to turn over vehicles to people in need as quickly as possible.
